Be My Eyes: Android Update

Updating the Be My Eyes Android app to Material Design 3 was a fun task that taught me a lot about component libraries in Figma.

This was early in my full time employment at Be My Eyes. We were updating the Android platform to MD3, and a dev colleague and I took care of that.

While this project was not the most creatively fulfilling, it was a helpful introduction to how the company works with Figma and both internal and external design systems.

I started by creating an end to end flow of the app by taking screenshots of the existing UI and then mapping it out. From there, I could use the Material Design 3 library to start redesigning the UI with their components.

However, as Be My Eyes is an app for blind and low vision people, it is very important to adhere to a high WCAG standard, specifically as it pertains to contrast. To accommodate this, I also created a few components that fulfill our needs.
